Practice Recordings
The practice recordings that I did included a run through of the original script and some recordings of footsteps and people falling on the ground for foley.
The full run through of the script did not go very well as the microphones did not work and only recorded half of the actors lines, this showed how when doing the real production I need to check everything is functioning properly first. Also some of lines came across as cringe or not believable, therefore these lines had to be changed during the recording process. The purpose of this recording was a to see how the actors performed with them scripts (weather they needed to change roles or get a different actor) and to see if this script worked as a whole.
The foley recordings went well although there is a lot of background noise, this is fine as the setting for my production is at a festival where there needs to be background noise for it to sound believable. However, there was not quite enough background noise so in the editing process I will need to download a festival background noise sound effect. This will help the production sound more realistic and not like it was just recorded in a studio. The purpose of these recordings was to get some sounds I can use in my production that sound realistic, this will help in making my production more sense of place and what it’s going on during it.

Focus Group - Recorded Sounds
|
Here is a recording of the short focus group I did for my practice recordings (turn the sound up). They highlighted that Only half the dialogue had recorded (which I already knew) and that some of it was slightly “cringey”. This was due to the fact I had written roles for certain people and they were not available on the day of recording so the actors were not really suited to the lines. The focus group also really liked the foley sounds and noted how they sounded realistic, this is good as now I know they are good I can use them in my final piece and I will not have to re record them.

Objective
My recording is a radio drama focussed around four 18 year olds at a festival, it deals with the problems of drink driving and young drinking. The story follows their activities through the festival and then their drive home which ends in a car crash. The aim of this radio drama is to deter people from drink driving and highlight the consequences.
Target Audience
The target audience for this campaign is 18 - 25 year olds as they are the younger drinkers and the younger drivers. They may feel they are able to drink and drive as they are not as experienced and this may lead to injury or fatalities. As it is a less mature audience i have incorporated some jokes and relatable situations to improve realism and make it feel as though it can happen to anyone.
Length
I have planned the drama to be about 2 - 3 minutes long, this will make it fairly short and effective as the comedy is suddenly stopped by the drama and information.
Style
My Radio Drama is planned to be in the style of a realistic, relatable teen comedy with very dramatic elements. This realistic approach should attract more viewers as they could see themselves or remember themselves in these situations and with the shock factor of the crash at the end.
Limitations
The actors are just my friends and are not trained or used to the environment therefore the acting may not be as good as possible. I have limited time tho record it so I may not be able to do multiple takes, which could lead to it being not as professional or perfect.
Cost
The minimum wage for under 18s (all my actors are under 18) is £4.20 which is what I will pay each actor. Also they do not need a break as they will be working 2 hours maximum. The cost of studio hire is £30 an hour so maximum that would cost £60. This would make costs fairly low for this project.

M1 - Identify resolutions to the legal and ethical issues for production
Legal And Ethical Issues + Solutions
In my production I use multiple copyrighted Drum and Bass songs, however I will only use 33 seconds of the songs so I don't have to pay money (PRS license) to use them. This also makes my advert legal to put online.
In my radio drama I need to make sure none of the actors slander anyone, if they do this can be dealt with by cutting the scene out and doing another take.
All the actors in my media production are under 18 and are therefore only able to work 8 hours maximum, this is fine as they will be only working for 2 hours (2 Lessons). Getting the recording finished in this time will save the actors time and then production company money.
I made sure the sounds I downloaded off the internet were not copyrighted and therefore legal to use in my production. All my other sounds (other than the music) were recorded by myself using foley or normal voice recording, this makes the sounds my own and therefore not liable to copyright claims.
