Film - IT
|
This scene from the 2017 horror remake IT uses different visual and audio effects to create a filing of fear in the viewer. This is done through the use of atonal music which unsettles the audience as it is commonly used in the horror genre and high pitched flute music which cuts off when the monster drops flute. Along with this there is barely any dialogue and there are common horror movie audio conventions such as loud bangs, the sound of flickering lights and doors creaking, this slowly builds up fear in the viewer until the jump scare. With the jump scare the music changes to the monsters theme music which is children loudly singing a rhyme. This breaks the tension and would make the viewer jump after all the build up through this scene. This is what the purpose of the scene was: to make the viewer scared.
